In Memory of Jacek Sygnarski – a Devoted Friend of the Polish Museum and Guardian of Polish Heritage

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jacek Sygnarski – historian, archivist, collector, and founder of the Archivum Helveto-Polonicum Foundation in Fribourg. He died on 6 June 2025 at the age of 82.

For decades, together with his wife Ludwika, he carefully built one of the largest collections documenting the presence of Poles in Switzerland. Their archive includes tens of thousands of books, magazines, letters, photographs, audio and video recordings – a unique resource on the life and activity of the Polish community abroad.

Jacek was a long-time friend and supporter of the Polish Museum in Rapperswil. We remember him with great appreciation – for his dedication, knowledge, and quiet generosity.

His funeral will take place on 18 June in Givisiez, near Fribourg.
